History of the
Department of Communication Science
Diponegoro University

The Department of Communication Science was established in 1967 under the name Department of Publicistics, which at the time was part of the Faculty of Law and Social Studies. The name Department of Publicistics later changed to the Department of Communication Science in 1984. Then, in 2007, the Department of Communication Science implemented a curriculum with two concentrations: Strategic Communication and Journalism. In 2020, the journalism concentration was renamed to Multimedia Journalism and Creative Content, so the concentrations within the Communication Science Study Program became Strategic Communication and Multimedia Journalism and Creative Content.

Since the Communication Science Study Program was first accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT), it has consistently received an A accreditation. The Communication Studies Program at Undip has established numerous partnerships (MoUs) with universities both domestically and internationally, particularly for student exchange programs and curriculum development. Collaborations have also been established with various institutions and companies in the fields of journalism and strategic communication, especially for providing student internship placements and graduate career development.
