Bachelor of Communication Science

Final Project (Thesis)

A final project is a form of scientific work, either a thesis or other forms in accordance with applicable regulations, which serves as one of the graduation requirements for a student as stipulated by the study program curriculum. In the Department of Communication Science, the final project is also referred to as a Thesis or Research Final Project.

A thesis is an undergraduate scientific final project based on personal research conducted in the field, laboratory, or through documentation as part of an undergraduate program. The preparation of the thesis in the Department of Communication Science is governed by a clear guidebook and assessment rubric. The documents can be viewed here:

The minimum duration for thesis preparation is one semester. Each student is supervised by two thesis advisors.

Final Project: Field Project

As a graduation requirement, apart from taking the thesis, Communication Science students at FISIP Undip also have the option to complete a project equivalent to a thesis, known as the Field Project. The Field Project provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate that their work has been professionally accepted by the industry relevant to their specialization, namely in the fields of journalism and strategic communication.

Typically, the Field Project is the result of collaboration between students from two concentrations, where students from the Journalism concentration focus more on producing the work, while students from the Strategic Communication concentration focus on client communication, sponsorship management, and marketing communication. In addition to gaining professional skills, the Field Project also opens up networks for students with the industry, thereby providing wider job opportunities after graduation.

Several companies that have partnered with the Communication Science program include TVRI Central Java, iNews Semarang, Kompas TV, Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), GOJEK, Semarang City Government, and Kominfo Central Java. Below are some examples of “Field Projects” that have been produced by students.

Student Competitions

The Department of Communication Science actively encourages and fully supports Communication Science students who wish to develop their competencies in competitions at the regional, national, and international levels. The support provided may include funding, permits, and direct guidance from lecturers to help students navigate competitions more effectively. The types of competitions students participate in are diverse, though they often remain relevant to the field of Communication Science. Examples include the annual Student Creativity Week (Pekan Kreativitas Mahasiswa), Public Relations competitions, advertising competitions, and others. Below are the results of student competitions:
