SEMARANG, May 25, 2026 – The Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Diponegoro, through the Research Group of Media Communication, Journalism, and Gender, organized the Undip Global Classroom (UGC) program through an international lecture entitled “Digital Newsroom Culture in the Age of Emerging Technologies.” Held on May 25, 2026, the event featured Associate Prof. Dr. Shahrul Nazmi bin Sannusi from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia as the keynote speaker.
The event was officially opened by S. Rouli Manalu, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FISIP Universitas Diponegoro, representing the Dean of FISIP UNDIP. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of international academic collaboration in helping students broaden their perspectives amid the rapidly evolving world of communication and media shaped by digital technological advancements.
The session was also attended by Dr. Agus Naryoso, M.Si., Head of the Department of Communication Science, and Dr. Drs. Sunarto, M.Si., Head of the Research Group of Media Communication, Journalism, and Gender.
During his presentation, Dr. Nazmi discussed how newsroom culture has undergone significant transformation in the digital era. He explained how audiences today increasingly access information through digital platforms and social media rather than conventional media outlets. He also highlighted the rise of the creator economy in journalism, which has reshaped the processes of news production and distribution.
According to Dr. Nazmi, the rapid development of technology and artificial i
ntelligence (AI) has brought major changes to modern journalistic practices. Newsrooms are now expected to work quickly, across multiple platforms, and continuously adapt to technological developments. Nevertheless, he emphasized that human journalists continue to play a crucial role in maintaining credibility, ethics, and the quality of information.
He also stressed the importance of multimedia skills, digital literacy, and technological adaptability for future journalists and media professionals.
Through this program, the Department of Communication Science of FISIP UNDIP hopes that Undip Global Classroom will continue to serve as a platform for meaningful international academic exchange while expanding students’ understanding of the dynamic and continuously evolving global media industry.
